Harlem United Show House

Roderick Shade is renowned for founding the acclaimed Harlem United Show House; the first African American interior design showcase in the world.

Challenge:
Provide event and cause-related marketing for the premiere opening of the first African-American interior design showcase in the world, the Harlem United Show House.  The Show House was conceived in support of the Harlem United Community AIDS Center.  A national tribute to the scores of designers in recent years who lost their battle against HIV. The Show House focused attention on more than 20 underexposed interior designers.

Solution:
Millynneum’s job was to provide Media Relations, Event Planning, and Event Management. Millynneum produced the “buzz” that resulted in an enormous turnout. Millynneum focused its strategy on fundraising, the media, and licensing & promotions in magazines, newspapers, radio, and television.

Result:
The event was highly publicized in widely distributed newspapers across the country. The pioneering effort resulted in other designers being included or considered by Kips Bay and other prestigious interior design concerns. According to Roderick Shade, “Measurable results have been seen in my own visibility in the media, name recognition, and of my work.”

South African Tourism

South Africa’s diverse and unique range of attractions and sophisticated infrastructure has helped it become one of the world’s leading tourist destinations.

Challenge:
Working with PT & Co., Millynneum's goal was to generate interest and support from influential groups within the African-American community to stimulate individual and group travel, resulting in increased economic growth in South Africa.

Solution:
Millynneum participated in leadership events to gain publicity and establish contacts.  In addition, Millynneum performed research and strategy for a one-hour televised special event.  Millynneum also implemented promotional contests that provided winners with a free trip to South Africa, a partnership between South African Tourism and South African Airways.  Further, utilizing connections at Howard University, an innovative college marketing plan was developed for rollout to universities nationwide.

Result:
The proposed South African Tourism program was implemented.  Millynneum currently works with established international contacts and U.S. tour operators and travel agents to build upon past success.  This strong foundation will generate African-American group travel focused on 2004, the 10th Anniversary Celebration of South Africa's first free elections.  Numerous celebratory events are planned in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and South African cities and provinces.
